Seascapes

There are many techniques to be learned when painting seascapes.  I took several workshops one summer with Douglas David.  After the workshops, I gave myself assignments.  Each painting I did was designed to help me master something.  My friend, Diana, gave me some large canvases which were perfect.

Atlantic Side

18” x 24” water mixable oils

This is the first seascape I did.  Sometimes you hit is right the first time.  The painting is called the Atlantic Side because it reminds me more of the waves and blue of the Atlantic.

Just Enough Seaweed

24” x 30”

In this picture I was working at creating the effect of seaweed.  I used some rice paper and some encaustic wax to create the effect I wanted.

Foam Meets Wave

24” x 30”

This one of my favorite pictures. My friend Marsha captured the foam left behind when a wave leaves in a photograph she shared with me. Again I used some rice paper. I used pearlized encaustic wax for the dots of foam.
