Encaustic

Encaustic
Excitement

There are so many ways to work with the medium of encaustic, I always find it enjoyable.  Trying new things  keeps me interested.  On the following pages are works using some differing techniques.  One of my favorite things about encaustics is that you can handle the work.  While you are in the middle of a piece, you can incise the wax.  You can put layers and fuse them with a heat gun.  On the following pages, some different approaches are illustrated.

Blue Currents

8” x 8”

Sometimes you have to just let the colors and textures take you on a journey.  Using a heat gun to move the color can lead you on a colorful adventure

Lost Lotus

8” x 10”

This one had many lines on the feathers incised and filled with india ink. It reminded me of some Monet Water Lilies and while I was working n it, I imagined the Lotus Flower would like to be in his garden.

Floating Feathers

8” x 8”

For this picture I used several techniques that all worked together.  One was new to me, I put some charcoal on the wax and it gave it a rustic effect.

Reblooming

30” x 36”

After fusing some abstract shapes in black ink, I used some oil pigment sticks on the wax surface.

Blue Ridge

8” x 8”

This is a mono print. Very thin Japanese Paper was used.  I had the Southwest in mind when I selected the colors
